Hi! Thanks for looking at my webpage.
It’s April 2025 and I’m in Vancouver BC! I was in Los Angeles from Jan 2022, where I worked on Moana 2 for Walt Disney Animation Studios. In Feb 2024 I returned to Canada and started working pretty fast, spending most of the rest of the year as a senior storyboard artist on “Paw Patrol Movie 3” for Paramount Pictures via House of Cool. (I think it’s a solid movie and I’m proud to have been a member of the Paw Patrol!)
After enjoying some down time to tackle personal tasks and to explore some creative avenues, I’m now available for work. I’ll also be starting a new WIA mentor circle soon that’s focused on branding. On that note, I’ve got a new webpage in the works- amyhenkelart.com- which is going to become my main hub. I’m much more focused in my goals and what kind of story artist I want to be, so I want a webpage that emphasizes my commitment to visual arts and visual communication.
My approach to entertainment comes from a character driven lens. I’m known as a funny person, and my comedy is about character interactions- less about physical (slapstick) comedy. In late November 2023 I finished Writing Lab at the Groundlings school after quickly going through the whole program. I’m still passionate about writing and bring a strength to the table in breaking story, affirming thematic through lines and in an ability to see structure clearly. But mostly the Groundlings program left me with a character based approach to everything from facial expressions to staging.
I learned a lot by going to the States and getting different perspectives on many things- socially, intellectually and especially in production approaches. There were far more differences than I was expecting. It’s given me a bigger buffet to choose from as I define my own approaches. The museums in LA also got me pretty excited about visual art, and lately I’ve been appreciating non representational art that uses universal elements like colour and shape to tell an emotional story.
Please use the email button above to reach out if you would like access to samples from my recent work. I won’t be shutting down this webpage, but I’ve been building over at amyhenkelart.com rather than updating here.
Please also reach out if you have any questions!
